For a few moments, it looked like this would be another comeback for the ages. With the Sox down 3-1 and down to their final out, the spiraling Mike Napoli came through big time, launching a two-run homer to tie the game and keep hope alive.

Sadly, we couldn’t push it any further, even after loading the bases in that same inning. In the top of the tenth, Naps came up again with two men on, but all the magic was out of the hat. And that, as they say, was that.

At least we got some good highlight reel fodder when Ortiz was spotted rubbing Nap’s beard in the dugout. Nap doesn’t look too thrilled about it; in fact, he has that “close to snapping” glow in his eyes. I’m not so sure how I feel about it either. Let’s just hope Papi washed his mitts before hitting the post-game spread.

We get ’em tomorrow. That’s how it has to be.
