Last night, the Red Sox tightened their grip on first place in the East with a rain-shortened, 3-0 win over the Yanks. Yes, as I boldly predicted, Clay moved to 8-0, but the bigger story last night was the thunder–both figuratively and literally.

First, the Sox got big home runs from Iglesias and Ortiz–who is basically revealing himself to be a sort of Nexus-6 replicant with his ageless styke of play. Then, when the heavens opened, a serious crack of thunder spooked the Yanks and Sox benches.

You can see the video here:

Not quite the same reaction as that creepy, post-9/11 thunder crack that had Nomar dropping to his knees back in the day. Still, I kinda dig the way Jonny Gomes first recoils, then gets that crazy look in his eyes, like, “That all you got, thunder?”

Anyway, a fine way to cap the road trip. Now we take a day to regroup and try to figure out the Rangers before our three game set at Fenway starts tomorrow.
