I could be wrong about this, but I don’t think I am. In fact, after Sandy launched a three-run homer off CC Sabathia into the stratosphere of Yankee Stadium, securing the Red Sox’ sixth straight win and this New York series, I was inspired to compile a list of the Greatest Red Sox Catchers Ever:
1. Sandy Leon
2. Sandy Leon
3. Carlton Fisk
4. Sandy Leon
5. Possibly Tek or Gedman
6. Sandy Leon
Not sure if any of this is even debatable, but I wanted to put it out there.
Anyway. That home run. Here it is:
The only two people not amused by that home run were Christian Vazquez — whose Pawtucket stay extends with every Sandy triumph — and this guy:
Also of note was the fine start by Eduardo Rodriguez, who’d I’d written off after his deplorable outing last month against Baltimore. Yes, it was the lowly Yankees. But his seven innings, four hits, one earned run performance gives us at least momentary hope that July and August will be entertaining.
But I’ll save the bad vibes for another day. Tonight, we’re streaking, and tomorrow we could sweep the Yanks in their house. These are better days.
