It’s never surprising to hear about roster moves and cuts this time of year; The Great Weeding is an annual rite of spring training. But what I found so intriguing about the first wave of cuts is that it includes some pretty awesome–and damn intimidating–first names. With yesterday’s move we lost an Oscar, a Clevelan, a Hector, a Brent, a Che-Hsuan and, perhaps most notably, a Stolmy.
The good news for fans of cool first names? Although expected to start the season in Pawtucket, Yamaico Navarro hasn’t been officially re-assigned yet. It’s no Randor Bierd, mind you–still perhaps the greatest name to ever enter the Sox’ system. But it’s good enough.
