I found Cashman’s comments after yesterday’s press conference for He Whose Name I’m Just Too Damn Tired of Writing to be wildly appropriate–and somewhat headwarmer-esque:
Though many in the Yankees camp are thrilled to have bested the Red Sox in the Teixeira sweepstakes, Cashman said the first baseman’s arrival guarantees nothing in the fight for supremacy.
“People thought that way about Alex [Rodriguez] and they’ve won two championships since then,” Cashman said, referring to the Red Sox. “Winning the winter means squat. I know Teixeira is a player they wanted, but they’re not a one-trick pony.”
Word. And the sound of a 500 million dollar team falling to the ground makes a pretty loud echo in the forst, bub. Whatever the hell that means.
