Boston.com is reporting that Jim Rice once again fell short of the required votes to get into the Hall of Fame. The man with the mustache that won’t quit and blinding suits gained 72.2% of the votes – 75% is the ticket price. That means 14 votes, sports fans. As we continue to learn more about the steroid and HGH use in baseball, don’t Rice’s numbers become that much more impressive? Next year is Rice’s final year of eligibility on the writer’s ballot.
I wrote this in 2005 when Rice missed the cut, and I stand by it.
