This was the scene at the plate in the series finale between the Sox and Seattle back in June. Yeah, that was the series that the seafaring baseball team swept the Red Sox and helped put the team into a little pre-all-star-break tailspin. Let’s put things in a little perspective before worrying too much about the likes of Richie Sexson.
The Mariners beat up on 6th starter Julian Tavarez in game one, beat up on 7th starter/AAA guy Kason Gabbard in the second game, and out dueled Javier Lopez in the 11th inning of game three after Dice-K shut them down for eight innings. No disrespect to Tav or Gabby, but this weekend’s match-ups are a bit more favorable for the Red Sox.
Tonight, Jon Lester – we know what he’s already beaten, how can the Mariners concern him? Tomorrow, Dice-K gets another shot against Ichiro and the M’s, we can only hope the bats show up. And Sunday – the return of the Schill. Would you want to be digging in the batter’s box against Curt after he’s been on the DL and then pitching in AAA for a couple of months? I think not. He will be fired up to say the least.
And the Yankees are playing the Royals again?
