The Red Sox win streak ended at 12 games Friday, thanks to Dontrelle Willis. Sunday, a new streak began as Manny and Ortiz took the Marlins behind the woodshed and gave them an old-fashioned ass-kicking. Manny was 2-for-4 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI. Papi was 3-for-4 with 2 homeruns of his own, a double, and 4 RBI. Ortiz’s double missed leaving the yard by a couple of feet. Wakefield looked dazzling before running out of gas in the Florida heat in the sixth.

The day was filthy was streaks and milestones. To name a few:

The end of the MLB-best errorless streak
Wakefield’s 150th career win
Wakefield’s 300th start as a member of the Red Sox
Manny had his 2000th hit
A-Gon doubled in the ninth to stretch his hitting streak to 11 games
Loretta didn’t play, holding his hitting streak at 13 games

So, the Red Sox finished June with the same record as they had in May, 17-9. They are 1-0 in July with series against Tampa, Kansas City and Seattle to look forward to. Another 17+ wins this month put the Sox in the driver’s seat to win the East. The lead is at 4 over both the Yankees and the Jays. Lester goes Sunday, I like our chances to start the month 2-0.
