Maybe that song gets me every time. And maybe it doesn’t. The point is, I believe it’s not how you make it to the playoffs, but what you do once you get there. Last night, the Red Sox did nothing, yet gained a half game in the Wild Card standings when both the Rays and Angels lost. So our magic number is 4 with 6 games left to play, while the Rays and Angels have 5 games left.

Sure, riding a wave of victories into October would make me feel pretty good about things in general. But if we fall over backward off the barstool and into the post-season, that’s good, too. Because once we’re “in,” anything can happen.
