Tired of staring longingly at the phone, waiting for Steve Crawford to invite you fishing (he won’t)? Looking for something to fill those empty days until Youk’s hairy ass is spotted roaming the Florida highways? Then I’ve got good news.
Saturday, January 15, will be a friggin’ cornucopia of Sox-related goodness to help make the winter pass faster. For starters, there’s the Jimmy Fund’s “New Stars for Young Stars” autograph-signing event, which will feature a number of Sox up-and-comers as well as Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Ryan Kalish, Darnell McDonald, Dan Wheeler and, straight from your fondest 2004 memories, Gentleman Bill Mueller.
That night, The Gammons straps on his guitar and hits the Paradise for the annual Hot Stove Cool Music concert, featuring Buffalo Tom, Kay Hanley, the Lemonheads, Bronson Arroyo, American Hi Fi, MC Mike O’Malley and The Julian Tavarez Dancers. And even if we did make up that last one, there ain’t no half-steppin’ to that line-up.
Here’s a clip I shot at last January’s concert, in which Theo replicates A-Rod’s infamous “ball slap” gesture. In my mind, it was worth the price of admission.
For those who just can’t wait for the 15th, you can catch the HSCM Baseball Roundtable on Friday, January 14 at Fenway’s State Street Pavillion from 6-9pm. The topic is “The physical, psychological and conditioning aspects of developing pitching” featuring Gammo, Theo Epstein, John Farrell, Curt Schilling, Bronson Arroyo and several others.
