It looks like when we all get together next Thursday for the Jimmy Fund Event, the game we watch will be meaningful. Last night was another example of a team intent on taking care of business. Dice-K and Doubrant kept the Sox in the game, Delcarmen pitched a clean inning, and Paps shut the door again. Thanks to a Mariano Rivera extra-innings loss, the Sox are now just five games back in the East.
The Sox got a veritable landslide of offense (relative to the Yankee series anyway) from a lot of source, some unexpected. Drew hit his 13th bomb, Lowrie had two hits, and Ellsbury looking more and more comfortable at the plate had two hits. Papi added a couple hits and Ryan Kalish continues to look like a keeper with a pinch-hit in the eighth and scoring from first on Lowrie’s double.
But it was Mike Lowell’s blast that put the Sox ahead to stay. While nobody can replace the Beard of Wonder, having Mikey’s bat in the line-up doesn’t suck. Tonight, Buchholz takes his 2.66 ERA to the mound. During the game, fans can bid on a chance to win a golf outing with Big Papi himself. You’d better bring your checkbooks, I know Red has his eye on this prize. Because his glowing-white skin and the blazing tropical sun is a winning combination…
