Man, you couldn’t script a game better than this. Your starting pitcher goes eight strong, your oft-maligned right fielder smacks a couple solo shots, your rookie outfielder gets the game-winning pinch-hit RBI, and your closer comes in and slams the door. End of story. And all that in two hours and nine minutes.
It’s getting to the point where it almost feels like the Sox are just screwing around with other teams’ heads. “Hey, let’s put someone else on the DL, maybe scratch another starter before the game, and see what happens!” Cap’n Tek pulled a Pedroia and will be out for a bit, and Mike Cameron was the “late scratch” with abdominal pain just before the start of tonight’s game. Step in Darnell McDonald to go one-for-three and Kevin Cash to throw out a runner trying to steal. And just like that the Sox are a thin half-game out of first.
With Jonny K hurling tomorrow and Lackey going on the 4th, isn’t the sweep inevitable?
