This is a no-brainer. Pedro’s absurd domination of the NL in 1999 was like watching Clubber Lang dismantle Rocky Balboa in their first fight. Pedro was damn near untouchable, striking out five of the six batters he pitched.
Somewhere in a booze-addled corner of my brain, I have a memory of Dwight Evans throwing out a runner at home in one of his three All Star appearances, but I was unable to find a record of it. Besides, that was before “IT MATTERED!”
Then, as Red’s dad was famous for citing, there was the year they played two All Star games…turned out he was correct, but we sure had a good time ribbing him about it.
