Folks like Gammons and Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports are reporting that the Adrian Beltre deal is done: One year at 9 mil with a player option for 5 mil.
While my first thought was, “Dudes, wrong Adrian!”, we knew another shoe had to drop in what we will refer to as The Lowell Situation. Gonzalez was the dream date, to be sure, but Jed Hoyer is really under no pressure at this time to unload his team’s biggest and most bargain-priced star. This move gets us a gold glove third baseman for short money (not counting what we’ll eat to move Lowell) and short commitment.
Best of all, that million-dollar, solar-powered banner that Theo invested in? The one that says “Welcome Adrian” in 200-foot letters? He’ll still be able to use that.
Also, our Opening Day line-up could look like this:
Ellsbury
Elf
Martinez
Youk
Ortiz
Cameron
Beltre
Drew
Scutaro
Whadaya think?
