You know, in many ways, I wanted to see John Lackey no-hit our boys tonight. Because being shut down by a guy with a 7.61 ERA over his last four games might have been the kick to the jimmy that the Sox needed so they could regroup, reform, get their shit together and figure out why they’ve spent the better part of the summer staring at Raymond the Devil Ray’s ass.
But then I saw the cameras pan to Jon Lester in the top of the ninth, and I thought, “Man, I’d sure hate to see his reign as the last major league pitcher to throw a no-hitter end tonight–on our field, no less.”
And just like that, the Elf delivered–a crisp hit between second and third, and suddenly all was right again.
At the end of the day, it’s yet another loss–and the losses at home, where we’d previously seemed invincible, are starting to stack up. But somehow, I’m feelin’ pretty good about it.
That said, if we don’t win tomorrow, I may just f#$k a tree.
