The world lost another rock-and-roll great yesterday. Dan Federici, longtime organ (and accordian) player for the E Street Band, passed away after a three year battle with melanoma.
Federici was noticeable absent from the band at the February concert I attended in Hartford, the Boss informing us he was ill, but I had no idea it was cancer.
Springsteen and the E Street Band have been my favorite live show since my first time seeing them – all four hours – at the old Garden in 1981.
You will be missed Phantom Dan.
