Honestly, there are some days I’d rather slip my balls into the waffle iron than show up at the office. According to today’s Herald, Julian Tavarez feels the same way, sometimes.

“I wasn’t even in the mood to be here today,” said Tavarez after allowing just three hits in an 11-0 rout of the Atlanta Braves. “There’s nothing wrong, it’s just how it is. I’ve been in the major leagues for 12 years, and if a major league ballplayer tells you they want to be in the ballpark every day they’re lying to you because it’s not true. Sometimes you come to the park because you have to.”

Jools goes on to reveal that underneath the wicked grin, the head rubbing, the Papi shoes and the Twyla Tharp-inspired gestures on the mound, there’s a guy who simply hates being away from his kids.

“I live with myself. I have lived with myself my whole life and a lot of times I want to be with them,” Tavarez said. “I’m sure there are a lot of guys like that, because we travel so much we don’t have a chance to be with our families. It’s different with the married guys because they get to travel with their families all the time. A guy like me, it’s kind of hard because I have to go pick up my kids and bring them around myself and I can’t do that.”

Maybe this will cheer him up. I know it worked wonders for me:
