Potential Opening Day starter and 19-game winner Chien-Ming Wang will start the 2007 season on the DL. Wang pulled a hamstring doing sprints on Friday.
“You’re talking late April,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said
Saturday. “You don’t want stuff like that to happen, but unfortunately it does
happen. When they happen, you handle it.” “I feel one pop, pull,” Wang said.
“Very sad. I hope it gets better.”
Losing a starter for the month of April certainly isn’t the worst thing for a team. With extra off-days and potential rainouts, teams can get by with 4 starters. It’s the nature of the injury – the hamstring – that should have Yankee fans’ stomachs churning. This could be a nagging or recurring problem.
Pettitte has already had back spasms, Mussina is another year older, and Pavano just plain sucks. There’s always the wild card…
