Important Dates in Red Sox History…
August 15, 2004: Does the date ring any bells? Think – maybe a forgotten birthday or anniversary? Was that the night you spent drunkenly groping…who was that?…after a power-drinking marathon in Boston? Maybe. But this we know for a fact: August 15, 2004 was the last time Bronson Arroyo lost a start. Yeah, you read that correctly.
May 5, 2005: nine months and a World Series Championship since his last loss, Arroyo came close to giving us another date to remember by taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Arroyo was brilliant, as he has been for a long time. When Carlos Guillen homered in the seventh to break up Arroyo’s bid, it also tied the game, and another great-outing-with-a-no-decision was looming. David Ortiz picked up his pitcher with an RBI in the top of the ninth, and Keith Foulke came on to throw a perfect ninth and seal the victory for Arroyo.
July 18, 1995: Don’t waste your brain power, I’ll get right to it. That was the last time the New York Yankees were seven games under .500, which is exactly where they are now. Tied with Tampa Bay for the basement in the AL East. A rare pregame team meeting held by Joe Torre seemed to have no impact on the listless Yankees. Their pitching is in shambles and they aren’t hitting. We keep saying “they’ll start hitting” and “don’t count them out” but there comes a time in a division as strong as the AL East that the hole is just too deep to climb out of. They’re not there yet, but they’re digging and showing no signs of turning it around.
May 6, 2004: Red stole my thunder already, but I’m sure you all knew anyway…
