As Grapefruit League games go, yesterday’s 5-4 win over the Phillies was pretty damn entertaining, pushing me dangerously close to the “all screaming, all beer tossing” mode I slip into once the regular season commences. Highlights included a couple superb defensive plays: a nice line drive snare by Bellhorn [whose hair is looking eerily reminiscent of Kip Winger’s] and a triple play begun by Hanley Ramirez. We also had a home run from Renteria and two hits apiece from Youkilis and Petagine.
Good stuff all around, and getting the blood flowing for tonight’s visit from the Yankees, who have yet to win a spring training game.
Reportedly, there’ll be no A-Rod. No Jeter. No Sheffield. But Bernie Williams, Jason Giambi, Hideki Matsui, and Ruben Sierra will be there. And Abe Alvarez gets the start. Who among you would dare choose American Idol over this?
