“I claim not to have controlled events, but confess plainly that events have controlled me”
~Abraham Lincoln
And so was the case last night. Bad pitching, no timely hitting and the little-known Canadian super-hero Reed Johnson conspired against Red Sox Nation for an embarrassing 15-2 smackdown. I guess I’d rather have the whole team suck and lose one game than have a couple of guys suck every night and possibly lose all the games. Pretty sound thinking, eh?
We were helped out by another Johnson, and he-of-the-crooked-cap, to maintain our lead in the East.
American League East
Boston 45-33 .577
Baltimore 43-36 .544 -2.5
Toronto 41-39 .512 -5
N.Y. Yankees 39-39 .500 -6
Tampa Bay 27-53 .338 -19
When was the last time the Yankees were in fourth place or at .500 in July? Pretty sweet.
Saturday night baseball at Fenway gives us Mr. David Wells and hopefully, some well-rested bats.
No worries.
