As if just the return of baseball wasn’t enough after the three-day-seems-like-three-weeks break, we get great news from “down on the farm.” Big Papi is back, and swinging a big bat. He went 1-for-3 with a walk, but the one was a shot into the opposing bullpen. And it felt good.

From Boston.com:

Though he said he misses playing at Fenway and that he’s eager to rejoin the Red Sox, Ortiz said hearing the “Papi!” chant made him feel at home. “That’s exactly what happens at Fenway,” he said. “They’re calling your name and it kind of pumps you up, puts you in the mood.”

Of course, the Yankees countered with a big bat of their own, signing Richie Sexson and his .218 batting average and 30 RBI. Coming off his 2007 season of .205, I guess he’s trending upward?
