The Red Sox moved back into first place last night, but a good chunk of the Nation was asleep when Stephen Drew hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the fifteenth inning.
A great win and one that gets us back into first place. But I’ll admit to being a little bummed that John Lackey didn’t get the win. The guy recovered nicely from his last couple shaky outings, allowing three runs and striking out eight through seven. When he left, the game was tied 3-3, but then The Elf homered in the bottom of the inning to give the Sox a 4-3 lead. In the eighth, however, Junichi Tazawa gave it right back when Kyle Seager took him deep. From there, they played another seven innings.
For those of you who didn’t make it to the bitter end, here’s Drew’s game winner. Note Larry Lucchino, John Henry and the missus getting all worked up. Love the way the two cronies high five while Mrs. Henry just wants to snap a photo to tweet.
Also, if you missed Jonny Gomes’ unassisted double play in the top of the fifteenth, you need to check that out, too. Yes, that’s our left fielder making the play at second.
Tonight, it’s Dempster against King Felix. Bring your drinking shoes.
