There was a time when asking Doug Mirabelli to take you “in the front door and out the back” meant certain jail-time and at least three violations of the Geneva Conventions. Nowadays, however, it’s just part of his gig. As a Realtor.

Doug Mirabelli has joined Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors as a full-time sales associate working out of the 522 East Front Street office.

Having passed his real estate exam and joined the Traverse Area Association of REALTORS, Mirabelli is now engaging in an entirely different version of spring training than in years past, namely the extensive training that Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors requires of all its new sales associates. Mirabelli has a profound appreciation for the special character of the Grand Traverse Region and expects that his real estate career will allow him to support local youth, in part by helping to fund his The Catch ‘Em All Foundation, which will focus on increasing youth opportunities.

In this age of Photoshop, space cars and celery-powered pajamas, I honestly can’t tell if this is true or part of some conspiracy to take down whoever’s funding all those goddam Tyler Perry movies. But if it’s legit–and either way, you gotta dig that publicity shot of Dougie looking about as comfortable in a suitjacket as Cornelius in Escape from the Planet of the Apes–I consider it another arrow in the quiver of Dougie’s legacy. And maybe, just maybe, it’s precisely what the housing market needs to halt its descent to unprecedented depths.

Thanks to Ross for the e-mail.
